Run hopli on the desktop and scan the code it shows. The code carries the desktop's address and its certificate fingerprint, which is the only way the two can find each other — a browser cannot discover anything on a local network by itself.

Why there is nothing to log into

This page is static. What you send goes directly from one device to the other over an encrypted connection. Between a phone and your own desktop you can prove it: unplug your internet and it keeps working.
